
Named to commemorate the career of USS ARCHER-FISH (SS 311) whose name, by the end of her career, had been arbitrarily changed to ARCHERFISH, SSN 678 was one of the STURGEON - class attack submarines. Both decommissioned and stricken from the Navy list on March 31, 1998, the USS ARCHERFISH was disposed of by submarine recycling at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Wa., on 6 November 1998.
